The City of Chickasha is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Building Inspector to help ensure safe, quality construction throughout our community. This position performs residential and commercial inspections, enforces building and development codes, and assists with floodplain, zoning, sign, and property maintenance regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct inspections of new construction, remodeling projects, and existing structures.
Enforce building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and floodplain regulations.
Review plans and blueprints for code compliance.
Investigate complaints and work with property owners, contractors, and the public to resolve issues.
Maintain inspection records, prepare reports, and coordinate with other departments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in the building construction field as a journeyman plumber, electrician, carpenter, or related craftsperson; or two years of experience as a building inspector.
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Construction or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of modern construction methods, building codes, plan review, and inspection practices.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, maps, and specifications.
Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to enforce codes firmly and professionally.
Valid driver's license required.
Licenses & Certifications:
Residential and Commercial Inspection Certifications preferred.
Candidates who do not currently possess required inspection certifications must be willing and able to obtain residential certifications within two (2) years of hire and commercial certifications within four (4) years of hire.
State Code Enforcement Officer License and Certified Floodplain Administrator certification may be required as directed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with code enforcement, floodplain administration, or plan review.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
